Description

Looking east at Grimsby Beach pier where the Niagara Navigation Co's. sidewheel steamship Chippewa awaits passengers. Postmarked 1925. Built in 1893 by Hamilton Bridge & Shipbuilding Co., she was the largest passenger steamer on Lake Ontario at the time, established a speed record of 20 knots and could carry 2,000 people. Taken out of service in 1937, she was scrapped at Hamilton in late 1939.
