Description

The sod turned on August 13, 1948 and excavating started in the peach orchard with the cornerstone laying done on October 3. The cornerstone contains a jar of wheat from the Smithville area, a bottle of wine distilled from Grimsby grapes, a jar of peaches from the Beamsville district and a bottle of tomato sauce from Winona. Cost of the new hospital was estimated at $180,000. Opening day was Sunday October 23, 1949. A notation printed on the back of the postcard read " West Lincoln Memorial Hosptial serves approximately 10,000 people. Erected in 1949.
