Grimsby Beach, The Picnic Grounds (Pride of Canada)Description
Grimsby Park flourished well into the 1930's. Church and company picnics were one of its specialties. Companies such as Proctor & Gamble held their annual picnics here. The picnic grounds featured tables, seats, cooking stoves and boat swings. In 1906, the Emancipation Day celebration, commemorating the abolition of slavery was held here, and continued to be held here into the 1920s.
