Description

The gate was originally in front of Dr. Algernon Woolverton's (1839-1912) office at 153 James Street North in Hamilton. When the building was torn down, the fence and gate were brought to Grimsby and placed in front of Dr. Jonathan Woolverton's house at 22 Main Street. The fence and gate remained there while a doctor was located at 22 Main Street. It was removed in 1979 and moved to the small garden behind WLMH. Dr. Woolverton Gate, donated by the Grimsby Historical Society as a memorial to the early doctors who served the region in the days prior to a hospital. Photo in the rear garden of the hospital. This memorial gate was reported missing in spring of 2023 when the hospital grounds were being cleared for the construction of the new hospital.
