M. Ofield & Sons Greenhouse - a selection of rosesDescription
The Ofield family came to Grimsby in 1890, when Matthias (Tice) Ofield settled in what is now Casablanca Boulevard. He bought a farm on the lakeshore and went into market gardening, taking produce to the Hamilton Market. His eldest son, Landy, built a greenhouse. By 1914, they had four acres of greenhouses. Later, they switched to growing roses and became one of the largest wholesale florists in Canada. El Rancho Casablanca would later be built over the site of the Ofield greenhouses.Collection
