Clive Bean photo Hamilton Spectator, Sat, Jan 08, 1938 ·Page 18 Clive Bean purchased the Independent from WJ Taylor of Woodstock in September 1928. He had been with the Waterloo Chronicle as a reporter and editor for much of his career. Taylor had owned the Independent since 1925. The Bean's arrived in Grimsby in October 1928 along with her mother Mrs. Bechtel and Sahag Kirkorian, an Armeian foster child who had been living with the famly for a year and a half. Mrs Bechtel was the daughter of the founder of the Mutual Life Assurance Company. In 1933 Bean ran for Grimsby Council, in 1937 he served as Library Board chair. SL Taylor of Hamilton, previously of the Oakville Record purchased The Independent from Clive Bean in May 1937 and renamed the paper the Grimsby Independent. Bean stayed on for three months and retired from the paper in August. Remaining in Grimsby, Bean continued with the Library Board and became the VP of the Grimsby Business Mens Assn. In 1939 the Bean's moved to Toronto and later Regina. Clive Bean died in February 1955 in St Petersburg, Fla at age 70.
