Jane Maeder was born in 1923, the daughter of Reginald [Reg] and Grace Maeder. Her father, origionally from Ayr, Ont. worked for the Grimsby Bank of Commerce in the 1910s & 20's. He was the branch Accountant when the new Commerce building opened on Main Street in Feb. 1922. In 1927 Reg Maeder was President of the Grimsby Lawn Bowling Club; he died after a lingering illiness in Jan 1929 and was buried at Queens Lawn. After Reg's death, the family lived at 32 Mountain St. [1931 Census] In 1936 Jane Maeder won the Ireland scholarship at Grimsby Public School for the highest marks in Literature and passed the year with honours. She also won a solo music competition for Senior girls held at the Public School. In 1940 she was elected President of the Junior Red cross and took her Grimsby High School final exams in 1941. Grimsby Independent, 28 Dec 1944, p. 1 - Her brother Flying Officer Paul Maeder was killed in action overseas. At the time, her mother Grace lived on Nelles Blvd and Jane was living in Toronto, attending the University of Toronto. Jane married David Stanley Moyer in Dec. 1949 and lived at Leaside.
