P2005-01-13-57Description
Nelles Manor was built from 1788-1798 by the Nelles family and ship builders, who would have been contracted by Robert Nelles. The house was fully built and lived in by the Nelles family by the time the Americans declared war on the British. The original front entrance was on the north side of the house facing the fields rolling down to the lake the road from Hamilton to Niagara. Over time, the Indian trail under the escarpment became the main thoroughfare through the village and the back entrance became the one most used. The upper storey was said to be used for the grand ball marking the end of the War of 1812.Context
