Description

West Lincoln Memorial Hospital got its start in December 1942 when Dr. J.H. MacMillian and Alexander R. Globe stopped to chat on the post office steps and agreed it was time for Grimsby to have its own hospital. Fund raising began immediately and it took three years before the hospital was able to open at the Deer Park Golf Club property that was donated by C.J. Eames of Hamilton. Mr Eames donated the Park Road property so the clubhouse could be used as a hospital, providing citizens raised $50,000 to cover the necessary renovations. In the first month of operation, the hosptial treated 46 patients. In the first year, there were 170 babies born at WLMH - 85 boys and 85 girls. Unfortunately, the building was destroyed by fire on January 29, 1948.
