St. John's Presbyerian Church

Description

St. John's Presbyerian Church was organized as early as 1831. A brick church was built and dedicated until 1889 when a larger church was needed. The old church was demolished and some of the brick was used in the new church (which is pictured in postcard). In April 1928, the contract for the new church was awarded to Shafer Bros. and Robert Gordon. The total cost including land, building, electrical etc. amounted to $17,700. Stone was quarried from the property of Mr. Beird on the Mountain at a cost of $25.00 Volunteers transported it to the site in the winter time. On January 20, 1929, the new church was dedicated.
