The Carnegie Library was built in 1912 with funding from Andrew Carnegie. The township had applied to receive a grant from Carnegie to build a public library years beforehand, with the earliest documented appeal dated to 1902. To maintain Carnegie’s interest, James Aitchison, secretary of the Grimsby Public Library Board, sent the philanthropist Grimsby postcards for two years. Aitchison’s hard work paid off on January 20th, 1911, when a letter from Carnegie agreeing to give the township an $8,000 grant was received by the library board. The Carnegie building served as Grimsby’s public library until 2004, when a new library was erected directly besides its predecessor. In 2023, the Carnegie building houses the FORT youth center and the Grimsby Historical Society's Archives.Collection
