The Lake Lodge School was situated at the foot of Maple Avenue. It was surrounded by 26 acres of gardens, lawns and playing fields. It was also the third oldest house in the area. The original house was built by Colonel Abraham Nelles around 1812, it opened as a school in the fall of 1896 by William J. Drope. Mr. Drope was previously a math teacher at the Peterboro College Institute. Several hundred graduates came from all parts of Canada; as well from other countries such as England, United States, Bermuda, West Indies and South America. Attendance was limited to 50 boys at any one time. Studies balanced quality scholastic and athletic programs. The building was demolished in July 1941.Collection
