View Looking West From Grimsby ParkDescription
View from the embankment in western Grimsby Park looking west along the shore line towards what is today Nelles Beach Park and the headland point of Maple Avenue.
This postcard has one of the few known images showing a groyne in the Grimsby Beach area. Centre just offshore is a wooden groyne, placed to reduce shoreline erosion and sediment movement. While the photo is undated, early 1920's news articles stated groynes and cribs had been constructed "some years ago" by land owners attempting to limit the considerable shoreline losses averaging 3 - 5 ft per year.Collection
