Students of Miss Lymburner's class Grimsby Public School - undated but post 1920 photographed on the front lawn of the school, looking south with a Livingston Ave background.
Alytha Lymburner, pictured back row far left, is believed to be one of the area's longest serving teachers, having taught over 1,500 students in her 45 years in the profession.
Raised in Caistor at "Popular Lane Farm", on graduation from Smithville High School, she then graduated with honours from Ontario Normal School [teacher"s college] and spent some time at Ontario Agricultural College, Guelph.
Starting in 1905 she first taught grades 1 to 8 at Union School Section No 2 Caistor. She then became Principal of Park School for a year but decided instead she wished to teach young students so she moved to the Lower Thirty School where she taught junior students for 13 years.
In 1920 she relocated to Grimsby to be with her widowed mother, Sarah Alice Lymburner. They lived nearby the school at 122 Livingston Ave, on the corner of Livingston and Kerman. She taught grades 2 and 3 at Grimsby Public school until her retirement in June 1950.
Miss Lymburner was a staunch supporter of Trinity United Church and served on the executive of Grimsby's Alexina Rebekah Lodge in the 1940's.
Aletha Lymburner died in 1966 and is buried at Queen's Lawn cemetery.
Note - her first name is spelled in different ways in numerous locations. Alyhta, and Aletha are most frequent versions.Condition
