There is no more authentic Canadian pastime than shopping at Canadian Tire on Saturday morning with your dad! It was reported in the May 5, 1955 edition of the Grimsby Independent that Canadian Tire bought an 80 x 225 foot lot on Main Street east as the site for a spacious new store. Mr. Arthur Thacker shared the store would begin construction soon. Thacker had opened the #5 Mountain Street store four years earlier however it wasn't long until he realized they needed a larger space. The new Canadian Tire would have plenty of parking at the rear of the store and would be one storey with a basement. In 1979, Canadian Tire moved to the Grimsby Square Plaza on Livingston Avenue. Canadian Tire has been serving the Grimsby area since 1951!Collection
