Description

Central High School left, 1910. Central Public School, right, 1906. At Livingston and Nelles Blvd. Central Public School was constructed as a modern replacement for an early two room log cabin school at Elm and Oak Street which had been in service since 1867. Initially for boys, girls were admitted in 1868. It was enlarged to three rooms in 1879. With Grimsby's propulation growth spirt in the early 1900s, the Central Public School was needed so this six class school opened in1906 to serve older students. The school soon began to struggle with its growing student base. In response, this three storey high school was built in 1910. The Grimsby Secondary School was built in 1925 on Bolton Ave. It funnelled students away from Central Public School. With dwindling numbers, the Central High School building was incorporated into the Central Public School.
