Hand's By The Lake Motel CourtDescription
Hand's By The Lake Motel Court at the foot of Roberts Road.
The business began with Mrs. Alice Hand, who started the business by buying two cottages from the Old English Inn (the Red Lion) on Main Street East. At the time, her husband (Edward Hand) and his family were in the fishing industry, which was experiencing declining profits due to pollution and invasive lamprey eels. The cottages soon became a popular stop for tourists. The Hands would eventually acquire 26 cottages and a snack bar.
The business continued to thrive until a fire destroyed the buildings in 1965.Collection
