Alf LePage - Chief Grimsby Fire Department The following article & photograph, appeared in the October 30, 1947 Grimsby Independent. He came to Grimsby in 1900 with his parents and three brothers. A veteran of the First Great War, having enlisted at the age of 17 years, Fire Chief Alf LePage is also a veteran of Grimsby Fire Department, having joined the brigade as a fireman in 1922 in which capacity he served for nine years and then was promoted to the rank of Captain which position he held for 8 years and was then raised to his present position of Chief with has has been for 8 years. Under his guidance the department developed into one of the best and most efficient small town fire fighting organizations in the province. He served in the Chief's role for 27 years until his retirement in October 1964. In 1962 he was named Grimsby's Citizen of the Year. He died in February 1979 at age 80 and was buried at Queens Lawn Cemetery
