ATLANTIC.016.001Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1849-72; altered 1949. This 2-story, hipped roof brick building in the Colonial Revival style apparently incorporates an earlier wooden structure on the site. The property began as frame, 1-story grocery built by A.E. Stelling on land purchased in 1849 from the Lightwood estate; a second story dwelling had been added by 1872 when it became the property of grocer John F. Meyer. After being occupied by a variety of groceries until 1927, it became a branch store for A&P. The building was bricked over by 1930 and converted a few years later by Mary Branch Chisolm Pelzer as a residence.
Three files contain documentation of the easement (exterior) on the property; part I National Register certification; annual inspection reports; requests for alterations; architectural drawings; paint samples; correspondence and other documentation related to the easement; historical/research information including title research.
