COMING.135.1Description
B&W photograph of 135 Coming Street (William Whiteman Tenement), street (front) elevation.
Constructed ca. 1830; renovated with certain alterations 1990. A Charleston jeweler and silversmith built this 2½ story Charleston single house on a raised foundation with a front closed gable end and double-tiered piazzas in the 1830s. The pedimented window hoods and the Italianate style piazza door probably reflect alterations of the last quarter of the 19th century. The house has undergone a number of alterations, including, most recently, the rebuilding of the chimneys and other changes after Hurricane Hugo. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)Collection
