Notes: 12/17/2010: Historical marker recently installed. Identifies the site were the Grand Hall stood, Charleston's largest pre-Civil War public space, seated 3,000 and hosted fairs, exhibits, concerts, balls, and conventions. It hosted the 1860 Democratic convention, which split over the mention of slavery in the party platform. December 20, 2010 marks the sesquicentennial (150th) anniversary of the drafting and signing of the Ordinance of Secession at Institute Hall.Created By
