128 Wentworth Street (Henry Cobia House)Entry/Object ID
WENTWORTH.128.1Scope and Content
Constructed ca. 1840s. This Charleston double house was built by the auctioneer and commission merchant Henry Cobia. The dwelling, with its prominent double-tiered piazza, shows the influence of the late-Classical Revival style with its Tuscan columns and dentiled molding around the cornice. However, the Italianate double doors and pedimented first floor windows illustrate the emergence of Victorian architecture. The house has an ell addition as well as a dependency in the rear. The dependency may have been built prior to the main house.
