Seat belts from those offered to Hammontonians through a 1962 community safety program--two complete belts consisting of a buckle side and a latch side and one incomplete belt consisting of only the buckle side. The belts consist of 2" blue webbing and chromed hardware. They are BODI-GARD Model No. BN 3-7001, with a manufacture date of 7 62 (July 1962). The manufacturer was Auto-Crat Mfg. Co. of Ypsi, Mich. and L.A. 65, Calif.
As a member of the Hammonton Jaycees, Vincent Giannini was chairman of the Jaycee's Auto Safety Program in 1962, rallying for seat belts in cars before auto manufacturers included them. For that community safety program, he selected the newly developed metal-to-metal safety seat belt buckle like the kind still used today. He arranged for any member of the community to obtain installation of seat belts in private vehicles through local service stations at a cost of $7.50 plus $2.50 installation each.Acquisition
