Costume Vest from Hammonton Centennial
Souvenir costume vest from the 1866-1966 Hammonton Centennial celebrated May 21st through 28th, 1966. This specific vest was worn by Vincent C. Giannini (1933-2022), Hammonton real estate broker, during the week of the Centennial celebration. The item portrays the front of a mid-1800s men's vest (i.e., waistcoat). It appears to be white cotton cloth.
- A permanently attached, 11-inch-long, 5/8-inch
wide, synthetic fabric, looped neck strap is at the
top.Two 20-inch-long, 5/8-inch-wide, synthetic
fabric straps are at the waist for tying on the vest.
- The vest is decorated with alternating red, white
and blue vertical stripes.
- Three 'buttons' are printed down the center (where
a real vest's placket would be located).
- Two (2) printed 'pocket openings' are at the waist,
with a six (6) link 'chain' printed as linking the two
pockets across the waist.
- A white oval space, 4-inches high by 4-1/2-inches
wide is located at the top left chest, with the
following lettering in blue printing:
"HAMMONTON" in 5/8-inch high letters
"1866-1966" in 1/2-inch high letters
"MAY 21-28" in 1/2-inch high letters
"CENTENNIAL" in 5/8-inch high letters.Acquisition
