Description

STEREOSCOPIC PHOTOGRAPH, "GROUNDS OF O.W. CHILDS, SO. MAIN ST.," Ellis and Son, Los Angeles, 1880s. The view shows a formal garden with lawns, walks or a driveway, a variety of trees (sago palm, fan plam, eucalyptus, pines, etc.), a gazebo, a large hedge fence, and other details. The name of the photographer and address are on the edges of the mount, while the title comes from an ink inscription on the reverse. Ozro W. Childs was a nurseryman and orange grower, who originally was in the tinware business, and his ranch was between Main and Hill streets east and west, and 11th and 12th streets north and south. He also built the Childs' Opera House.
