"NEWBURYPORT [MASS.] DAILY HERALD," JANUARY 3, 1849 Color: Black; White "Newburyport [Mass.] Daily Herald," January 3, 1849 issue. The newspaper which has a mix of local, regional, and national news, is notable for an advertisement on the far right column of the front page, which shows an early image of Santa Claus, and for a number of advertisements in the preceding column, under the heading "CALIFORNIA," which have to do with transportation provision and the provision of supplies for those interested in gold mining in the recently-discovered mines in the territory. With paper brittleness; creases; soiling; browning; folds; some foxing; spine losses; light stains; and spine tears, the overall condition is fair.
