"1002. The Bells of San Gabriel, San Gabriel, Cal," published by Continent Stereoscopic Company, ca. 1878. The image mainly shows the belfry of the old church, which has four of the six bells (the two missing ones later were returned by E. J. "Lucky" Baldwin). There are portions of the church at right and rectory at left. In the foreground is a wooden fence and a trellis in front of the buildings. The caption is at the lower left. The date is derived from an advertisement on the reverse for a book published in 1878. With soiling, edge wear and heavy staining on the reverse, the condition is good overall.Lexicon
