2002.46.1.1Description
A stereoscopic photograph,"Public School, Los Angeles, California", ca. 1870s. The image is mounted on a yellowed card with the words "Popular Series" (a pirated series taken from an earlier published view) in script on the left and right edges. The view appears to be from Fort Street (later Broadway) and looking to the southeast. The school, at right, is a two-story wood structure with a tower or cupola at the center. An entrance is at the lower right of the first floor with a set of stairs leading to it. It is difficult to make our further details, either in the foreground near where the photographer stood or in the background cityscape. In good condition, the artifact has something adhered to the right image, just left of the school building. There are also corner dents, some surface soiling, and the photo has come loose at the top left.Lexicon
