"Photoplay," published by the Photoplay Publishing Co., September 1928. The 138-page magazine has a white cover, at the front of which is the title at the top in red and black. At the center is a color head-and-shoulders illustration of Gloria Swanson. A multicolored checkered pattern is in the background. At the bottom are the words "Why Mary Pickford / Bobbed Her Hair In This / Issue." An advertisement section and a table of contents are at the beginning of the inside. The issue contains film reviews, short stories, and articles on advice for girls from Carolyn Van Wyck; star updates; Joan Crawford; part four of John Gilbert's autobiography; fashion; gossip; why athletes fail as actors; sound film reviews; Richard Barthelmess; how favorite actresses cook; bathing suits; and more. Black and white photographs, as well as many advertisements for films and household goods are included. In good condition, the artifact has minor creases; light soiling; two small stains; and two small tears at the top and bottom of the spine.Lexicon
