Description

"(158) Walnuts 2. Shelling and picking walnuts by hand, El Monte, Calif.," Philip Brigandi, Los Angeles, 1920s. The image shows two women and two children, perhaps a grandmother, daughter and granddaughters seated on the ground in a large grove with tall wide-spreading walnut trees working with the nuts. All four appear to be Mexican. On the reverse is an ink inscription, perhaps an identification number, and a stamp from the San Luis Obispo school system, while at the lower left of the front is a stamp from the county library. The right image has two creases, one going through to the mount, while the left is generally clean. With these, the curved mount, and some soiling, the overall condition is good.
