Description

Color: Black; Red "All About Going Abroad," by Harry A. Franck (New York: Brentano's Publishers,) 1928. The 160-page hardcover book has the title and author's name at the bottom of the front cover. Above these is an image of a cruise ship sailing on the ocean in the distance, a puff of smoke blending into the clouds. On the spine is the title, author's name, and publisher's name. The work is divided into many chapters, detailing the where, when, and how of overseas travel, including preparations and planning; costs; items to take when traveling; clothing; currency exchange; baggage; shipboard information; customs; railroads and air travel; taking or renting a car; local guides; telegrams and telephones; hotels; tipping; foreign customs; important cities and their attractions; and reference items, such as distances between places; and a table of weights and measures. At the end is an index, a diary, a memoranda and address section, and record of expenses. There are five maps. With cover corner and spine abrasions; dented corners; overall surface soiling on the cover; some discoloration on pages; and pencil marks and inscriptions as marginal notes on pages and an owner's stamp on the front flyleaf, the artifact is in fair overall condition.
