Description

"No. 167. San Pascual Cañon, San Gabriel Mountains, Cal.," originally photographed by Alexander C. Varela, Los Angeles, ca. 1878 and republished by Isaiah W. Taber, San Francisco, ca. early 1880s. The view shows a stream with a low level of water running amongst piles of rock, an outcropping, some trees and other landscape. The name of the canyon has changed, but the current name is yet to be located. Varela moved to San Jose and worked as a photographer there in 1880, but evidently sold his negatives to Taber before returning to Washington, D. C., where he worked in the federal government system. With slight mount curvature, some soiling and edge rubbing, and fading the overall condition is fair.
