2011.187.1.1Description
An unmounted cabinet photograph, "37. The Old and the New of Los Angeles, Showing Pepper Trees in Sonora Town," R.R.B.T., Los Angeles, 1893. The view shows some adobe structures with a board fence between them and portions of two large pepper trees in the foreground. Two women and a child are near the open door of the structure at the right. In the distance are some modern structures, presumably in the hills west of Sonoratown, which was a predominantly Latino community north of the Plaza. The caption is at the lower left along with the initials "R.R.B.T." and the year "1893." On the reverse in ink is "Mrs. Weddell" and a pencil inscription, "Rec. 10/1/93." With some soiling and creases, as well as warping from the thin paper, the overall condition is good.
