"Metal Crafts in Architecture," by Gerald K. Geerlings (New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1929,) 202 pp. A hardcover book without a dust-jacket and with a green cloth cover. On the front, at the top in large black letters, is the title, under which is an image of what appears to be a doorknocker, consisting of a round ring in the mouth of a monkey-like figure that is within a square. The author's name is toward the bottom. The spine is black and between two gold horizontal lines at the top and bottom is the title, author's last name, and, at the bottom, the publisher's name. Contents include chapters on bronze; brass; cast-iron; copper; lead; zinc; tin; lighting fixtures; and current developments in the 1920s on the uses of these materials and items. At the end of each chapter are sections of photograph illustrations, numbering from three to sixty-one in number. These illustrations show manufacturing processes, as well as finished products, which include architectural elements, such as doors, balconies, grilles, gates, furniture and furnishings, window frames and screens, and lighting fixtures as well as statuary. Specifications, a bibliography and an index of illustrations are at the end of the book, which also has a "raison d'etre," explaining why the book was written and an acknowledgements section. There is fading and dented corners on the cover and abrasions on the edges of the spine, but the book is overall in good condition.Lexicon
