Description

"SELMAK BRAND CATALOG FROM THE SELZ ORGANIZATION" Color: Brown; Orange; White "Selmak" brand shoe catalog, issued by The Selz Organization, ca. 1927. The softcover artifact has a border with a vine-like outside and an orange interior. At the top within the box is the company logo, with the brand name underneath and an explanation that the brand is different than the Selz brand, offered in item 1.1 and that the name is derived from "Selz Make" or "Made by Selz." Though not expressly stated, the intimation is that the Selmak brand is a less expensive one than the Selz line--this is hinted in a statement that the company took pride in the brand and that they were made according to company standards. Offerings include black, tan and duo-tone shoes and many are high top boots. A few have embossed designs around the ankle and all have a model number, description, list of available sizes and a black and white or color drawing accompanying. Many of the shoes are boys models, indicating a lower price for the Selmak line. On the lower part of the back cover are the pencil inscriptions "C1448" and another that is unreadable. In fair condition, the top and right edges of the front cover have dark discoloration; there are small tears, creases and stains, surface soiling and hints of pest infestation on the covers; and surface soiling, creases, and some small stains on several pages.
