"898. San Gabriel Mission, Founded Sep 8, 1771," W. H. F., 1890s. The image is taken from the southwest and looks toward most of the adobe rectory with its broad hipped roof and tall porch and a small courtyard fronted by a brick wall and gate. To the right is the belfry of the old stone church and other portions are obscured by a pepper tree next to the sidewalk running along the length of the structure. The caption is in white ink at the bottom and "W.H.F." might by William H. Fletcher, a Los Angeles photographer from 1885. With curving of the mount, a dent at the top center of the mount and some soiling, the overall condition is good.Lexicon
