"Geology and Oil Resources of a Part of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties California," Bulletin 753 issued by the U. S. Geological Service, by William S. W. Kew (Washington: Government Printing Office,) 1924. The item is bound in a blue paper cover with the names of the government Department of the Interior and United States Geological Survey and their heads at the top, the bulletin number beneath this, the title and author's name, as well as the seal of the Interior Department at the center, and the printer's name, location, and the publishing year at the bottom. On the spine are the title, author's name, and the names of the Geological Survey and Interior Department. The back cover is missing. Contents include an introduction; acknowledgements; geography; climate and vegetation; stratigraphy; , which is subdivided into many sections relating to formations in the areas covered; structures; and petroleum, including its origin, accumulation, surface evidences, and occurrence and future possibilities in a variety of sections within the covered area. There is also an index and seventeen plates, the first two of which are missing, and seven figures. The covered area includes northwestern Los Angeles and northeastern Ventura counties, including the Santa Clara Valley and the old San Fernando district near present Santa Clarita, where F. P. F. Temple had wells in the early 1870s. There is a library stamp at the top of the front cover. With cover creases, dents, stains, and tears; the missing back cover; a heavily damaged spine; and yellowing of pages, the overall condition is fair.Lexicon
