Scope and Content

An oral history by Wilbur Sherman. The interview jumps topics almost every paragraph. The main topics include; Sherman's family history, Sherman's roots on Whidbey Island, farm life, what Sherman remembers about the Engles, Ebey's Prairie, the steamer Calista, and WWI. Sherman recalls a lot about growing up on a farm and mentions all the hard work that members of his family (himself included) did. He also notes that a "chinaman" did a lot of the hard labor. He ends the interview by talking about the community as a whole, specifically mentioning that those who settled on the island were hard-working, God-fearing and stable people.
