An article entitled, "Dozers, debate each roll on" by Mary Kay Doody. The article discusses the roads being built on Ebey's Prairie by the owners of the Smith farm. The Park Service's acting regional director, Edward J. Kurtz "asked for a one-year moratorium on development and land-use changes in 'the most critical and sensitive areas within the historic reserve'". However, the process is slower than the road construction and this upset many people. Prosecutor David Thiele "rebutted audience criticism of the commissioners by saying, 'they cannot justt run out and do something'".
