308 North Main Street, Coupeville, WA. circa 1870. Vernacular Gothic Residence. John Alexander Jr. built this house in 1870 and sold it to Joseph Barstow Libbey in 1871. The kitchen wing on the west facade was added aet a later date. The structure originally had gothic-style barge board and finials on the gable ends, and decorative brackets on the porch. Although these decorative elements have been removed, the integrity of the house has not been lost. The house still owned by the Libby family in 1995.
The property is significant under National Register criterion A for it association with early Euroamerican settlement in the Pacific Northwest and the Donation Land Claim Laws, in the period between 1850 and 1870.
