Postcard depicting Crockett Blockhouse, postmarked 20 April 1909. Addressed to Miss Mary E Warren, R.F.D. #3, Box #226, North Yakima WA. Reverse of postcard reads, "How do you like this one. I think it is rather neat. This blockhouse will be in Seattle at the A.Y.P. Exposition. H.P.B."
The A.Y.P. Exposition was the Alaska--Yukon--Pacific Exposition, a world's fair held in Seattle from June to October of 1909. Its purpose was to publicizing the development of the Pacific Northwest. It was originally planned for 1907 to mark the 10th anniversary of the Klondike Gold Rush, but the organizers learned of the Jamestown Exposition being held that same year and rescheduled.
The fairgrounds were hosted on an undeveloped portion of the present day campus of the University of Washington.Collection
