Description

Gun Emplacements at Ft. Sumter, SC. Two large cannons and one small.Ship and water in background. Notes with picture: "These pictures ar of the gun pits at Ft. Sumter, Charleston S.C. when surrender was imminent the defenders filled these pits with sand from the beach. The guns remained buried until fairly recently. One gun was kept as it was uncovered - corroded and pitted. The others were cleaned up as shown. A Boat takes sightseers to the island. Entire classes of school children take this interesting and informative trip. The fort is now administered by the National Park Service and lecture tours are conducted by rangers.
