Letter to Mary Alice Brooks The "Giant Clam" refers to a very large clam shell on display in the shell shop in the first floor of the Calhoun building operated by the former Post master. In the letter Jimmie Jean explains that she is taking care of her sister, Mary Alice's, house cat and their vegetable garden while the Brooks family is visiting their daughter in England. Chancey is their neighbor across the street. Mary Coates sometimes had low threshold boundaries. Darla and Quida are friends. Henrietta is likely Henrietta Maxwell. Naddy is Lou.
