Scope and Content

This memoir is the chronological history of Francis Asbury and Mary Scoonover LeSourd. This history was prepared in 2003 by Peter Charles LeSourd, a great-great-granson of Benjamin and Ann Gorsuch LeSourd. It is based on the memoirs of Rev. David G. LeSourd, on the LeSourd family genealogy prepared in 1925 by E. B. LeSourd, and on Peter LeSourd's direct investigations and observations during visits to Ohio and Indigenousa in May and June 2003. The notation "memoirs" means from the memoirs of Methodist minsiter David G. LeSourd, one of Benjamin and Ann's sons. He dictated his memoirs in 1916-1917 to his wife, who recorded them longhand. Later several typewrittern transcriptions were prepared. The page numbers in the following text are from the photocopy of the typewritten memoirs held by Peter LeSourd's family, those in brackets are from the typewritten version of the memoirs held by the University of Puget Sound ("UPS"). Where the wording varies slightly between the two versions of the memoirs, the wording from the family's version has been used. The notation "genealogy" means from that genealogy prepared by E. B. LeSourd in 1925. All place references in Ohio are in Butler County, north of Cincinnati, and in Indigenousa are in the vicinity of Lafayette, except for Howard Coounty, which is around Kokomo.
