Description

Postcard of the Whid-Isle Inn. The photo is taken from the beach looking up the bluff to the hotel above. A group of men and women are gathered on the beach. At least one of the idividuals appears to be a World War One soldier. There is a plethora of driftwood. It looks as though the hotel is just being built as the dock is not finished and some of the doors and windows do not seem to be installed. This likely dates the card to 1907. The back states: "Come, see beautiful Whid-Isle Inn and Park, virgin nature's gem in the primeval forest. Drive the thirty miles from the Mukilteo Ferry on excellent highway through the virgin forests of Whidby Island. Observe the wonderful bathing beaches, placid bays, gigantic trees, and as beautiful scenery as you would wish anywhere. Get back to nature where the pungent pine laden ozon will thrill you. Alluring fishing coves teeming with gamiest fish anywhere. Wild deer and quail abound. A veritable vacation paradise. The keenest appetite is soon satisfied with good food deliciously prepared and plentifully served at Whid-Isle Inn. $3.50 per day. Special rates to parties, by week or month. Between Coupeville and San de Fuca. Camp Grounds and Cabins for rent." Front caption states: "Whid-Isle Inn, Penn's Cove, Whidby Island, Wash."
