Description

Morter Batteies Battery Parade road. Camera facing north y north east. Image taken on the steps between BAttery Schenck and Battery Seymour. Summer encampment 1911. Two data/telephone booths. Mortar aiming data received from the plotting room then written on boards and pushed out on the near side. The crews would look at the boards and know what zone and azimuth/elevation angles are needed to load and aim the mortars. Notice the kerosene lamp posts. Also the plotting rooms were in the fire control building adjacent to the lighthouse. The plotting room foundations currently seen today were from the new plotting rooms constructed in 1915.
