Northwest Coast women are renowed for weaving some of the finest baskets in the world. The numerous shapes and sizes of baskets fall into three divisions: the firm, often water-tight utensils of cedar or spruce root coils; the thin, flexible, imbricated receptacles used for storing possessions; and the open-meshed, checkerwork baskets used for washing clams and for bearing burdens on the back. This post card shows a lady making one of these baskets.Made/Created
