2024.RSC.565Description
Postcard depicting a vehicle covered in patriotic flags and fabrics on the 4th of July in Coupeville, likely c. 1914. A man sits in the vehicle and looks towards the camera. A bald eagle (likely a statue) is perched in the car's windshield. Photo by Perry Grove.
A written note on the reverse of the postcard reads, "Nelson IX Shullsey" [or Shuclsey]. It is unclear if this is related to the
photo or not.
According to a Whidbey News-Times article, "this automobile was decorated by Mrs. Moffatt, Miss Ida Eaton, Ernest Boyer, and Oscar Hull who had it trimmed with bunting and flags, while in the front was a large bald eagle trimmed with red, white, and blue. This auto attracted considerable attention."Subject
