In 1883 in partnership with Alvah Blowers, he leased the building (now occupied by the Captain's Galley) from John Robertson. He was known as a "quiet and honorable man, who conducted his business in an efficient and ethical manner." He fired one of his teamsters when he found him beating his horse. His wife Lizzie (daughter of a sternwheeler boat captain) called him "Bunny." In turn, he called he "Pet" or "P.K." They had three children. They moved west of town and eventually to Anacortes where he ran another store.Lexicon
