Description

The land received is noted as 640 acres in Island County: "Claim number fifty-eight being parts of Sections seventeen (17) and twenty (20) in Township (Twp.) thirty-two (32) North of Range one (N.R. 1) East." Land description continues as follows: "Beginning at the North East corner of said section seventeen and running thence South eighty-four chains and eighty-one links; thence West thirty chains and thirty links; thence south thirty-eight chains and eighty-one links; thence West twenty-eight chains and fifty links; thence North seventy-eight chains and fifty links; thence West seven chains and thirty-four links; thence North forty-four chains and fifty-five links and thence East sixty-five chains and [illegible]-one links to the place of beginning in the district of Canada subject to sale at Olympia, Washington Territory, containing six hundred and thirty-nine acres and forty-seven hundredths of an acre." Dated 06 April 1878, signed by then-President of the United States Rutherford B. Hayes.
